what’s the nice word for selfish?

independent. how i met your mother (2009)

where’s the fine line?

through the acts of independent arguably selfish men, I have learnt the contingencies of adaptive responses, learning defensive behaviours and coming to view myself as independent – my own one woman team. perhaps in part to insulate myself from pain and having lost care in exchange, i’ve become arguably selfish myself.

i went shopping myself today. yes myself . i bumped into high school people i knew on the train. they asked me what i was doing… you’re not going yourself are you they said. so I was lead to say no I’m not (though I was) because they thought it was sad and lonely as they proceeded to tell me as I had pre empted they thought. lying to avoid awkwardness. why are people afraid of doing things themselves? To be honest, somehow paradoxically I don’t care what people think, I just like doing my own thing but I’ll tell a lie to keep the peace or not care enough about their opinions on the ability to act independently to try and change them. perhaps this whole scene is contradictory. whatever fuck it.

and woot Bob Dylan:
Well, it ain’t no use to sit and wonder why, babe
If you don’t know by now
An’ it ain’t no use to sit and wonder why, babe
It’ll never do, somehow
When your rooster crows at the break of dawn
Look out your window and I’ll be gone
You’re the reason I’m trav’lin’ on
But don’t think twice, it’s all right

And it ain’t no use in turnin’ on your light, babe
That light I never knowed
An’ it ain’t no use in turnin’ on your light, babe
I’m on the dark side of the road
But I wish there was somethin’ you would do or say
To try and make me change my mind and stay
We never did too much talkin’ anyway
But don’t think twice, it’s all right

So it ain’t no use in callin’ out my name, gal
Like you never did before
And it ain’t no use in callin’ out my name, gal
I can’t hear you anymore
I’m a-thinkin’ and a-wond’rin’, walkin’ down the road,
I once loved a woman, a child I’m told
I give her my heart but she wanted my soul
But don’t think twice, it’s all right

So long, honey, babe
Where I’m bound, I can’t tell
Goodbye’s too good a word, babe
So I’ll just say fare thee well
I ain’t sayin’ you treated me unkind
You coulda done better but I don’t mind
You just kinda wasted my precious time
But don’t think twice, it’s all right

After exam, to see list
